- Stafford’s Merry Maids branch acquired by new owner
- Franchisee set to focus on expansion in local area
- Deal supported by funding from Royal Bank of Scotland
The Stafford branch of domestic cleaning company Merry Maids has been acquired by a new owner in a deal supported by Royal Bank of Scotland.
Experienced cleaning professional Ian Thomas has acquired the branch following the retirement of its previous owners and plans to focus on the growth of the business. Merry Maids Stafford currently services 205 homes within a 15-20 mile radius of Stafford and an immediate strategy is focussed on increasing customer numbers in the Cannock, Rugeley and Hednesford areas. Two new members of staff have already been recruited ahead of the planned expansion with further job creation planned in the coming months.
Merry Maids is the largest domestic cleaning franchise network in the world. The company was originally started in 1990 in the USA and has expanded rapidly, today cleaning more than 300,000 homes worldwide. In the UK there are over 100 Merry Maids franchises, each independently owned and operated.
Royal Bank of Scotland has supported the acquisition with a five figure funding deal. Broker Chris Brown from Central Finance also advised on the deal.
Ian Thomas, Owner of Merry Maids Stafford said: “I used to work for Merry Maid’s parent company Servicemaster who specialise in offering commercial cleaning services. When I saw that the opportunity to acquire my local Merry Maids branch had arisen I knew I had to take it and I am so pleased that my acquisition has been a success.
“Merry Maids Stafford is already a very well performing business and we intend to carry on offering the same great service to our customers. There are lots of opportunities in the local area for growth and I am focussed on expansion during the next few months, aiming to increase annual turnover by 16% by the end of our first year.
“The support I have received from Raymond at Royal Bank of Scotland has been fantastic and I cannot fault him. The guidance he provided ensured that the funding process ran smoothly and I am looking forward to working alongside him as the business develops.”
Raymond Nsemwa, Relationship Manager at Royal Bank of Scotland said: “As a bank, we are focussed on supporting local businesses and I am pleased that we have been able to support Ian to acquire the Stafford Merry Maids franchise. Ian is well experienced in the industry and he knows the local area very well. His plans for growth and expansion are well founded and we wish him the best of success with his new business. We have already developed a great working relationship and I am looking forward to continuing to support the company to achieve its growth objectives.”
