Record turnover, an industry award and special recognition for staff have marked the 20th anniversary of Derbyshire-based A1 Comms Group.

The company has grown from a single shop in Alfreton to become one of the UK’s foremost mobile phone and communication solution providers.

It now has a nationwide online business and 60 high street stores and is forecast to turn over £130m this financial year – a staggering £47m increase (or 56%) on 2016-17.

The impressive figures can be attributed to significant rise in sales volumes across both its digital and retail estate.

This has been achieved through closer working relationships with key partners as well as continued growth from the outbound call centre on Pride Park.

Surveys also show that consumer confidence in A1 Comms Group’s online brands is outperforming direct competitors.

The upsurge in turnover has been complemented by another industry accolade with the company this week being chosen by mobile network giant EE as its best dealer for the second consecutive year.

The award, handed out at EE’s Indirect Retail Partner Awards, celebrates the partner which had provided best customer satisfaction and sales performance among other achievements.

Mr Sisson said: “We are very proud to have been chosen as EE’s best dealer for the second year running. “It is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our staff in delivering and maintaining the highest standards of service to our customers.”

A1 Comms Group operates several high-end national brands, covering both the B2B and consumer retail market. Under its umbrella are buymobiles.net, affordablemobiles.co.uk,  Mobile Shop, phones.co.uk and Go Mobile.

It has made a name in the industry for its innovation of products and services and nurturing its staff.

The latter was evidenced earlier this month when the company’s commercial director, Adam Chadwick, and corporate sales director, Tonia Baldwin, received special presentations after celebrating 20 years with the company.

Adam was just 17 when he was recruited in November 1997 in accessory sales.  He graduated through the ranks from being a shop assistant in Alfreton to become one of its senior figures.

Tonia has seen similar progression since she was hired at the age of 28. She began as the Alfreton shop manager, was promoted to area manager of the retail estate which at the time covered Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and then began the B2B branch of business.

Paul Sisson added: “The success of our company is built on the foundations laid by the hard work and dedication of our wonderful staff. I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”
