At Leicester College, we pride ourselves on our relationships with local employers. We work with Boden, LCFC, the National Space Centre, Ragdale Hall, Highcross, Seed Creativity, and King Richard III Visitor Centre as well as a wide range of local SMEs to offer our students genuine opportunities to learn and develop essential work skills.

We also play a role in getting people into work who are no longer studying, by regularly running careers, apprenticeship, and recruitment fairs to help match talent with opportunity in our city. As of late 2017, we had 1,194 apprentices training with us – around half aged 16-18, with the remaining half aged 19 or over. Our largest apprenticeship industry areas are construction, engineering, business and hairdressing. We also offer a range of free or subsidised-cost work skills courses for the unemployed at our newly relaunched City Skills Centre. Some of these courses offer a guaranteed job interview with an employer at the end of them for everyone who has successfully completed the course.

Ofsted have praised the relationships that we have built with employers: “Employers engage well in [apprenticeship] programmes by contributing to the development of apprentices’ skills and vocational knowledge in the workplace. As a result, the majority of apprentices develop good vocational skills.” (Ofsted, January 2018).

Importantly, we value what employers can offer our students – and we hope to offer useful training in return.

When it comes to training your existing employees, we offer a range of flexible, part-time professional courses to meet your needs. These courses cover a range of professional fields, such as teacher education, business and computing, English and maths skills, and more. Additionally, our ever-popular distance learning courses are available in business-relevant areas and have the advantage of complete flexibility: no classroom attendance is required, and employees are able to complete their training outside of office hours. Another benefit of these fantastic courses is that many of them are totally free.

We’ve also got a dedicated employer engagement team who will work to support you – from finding you an apprentice to advertising your vacancy and beyond.
