Local accountants Moore Thompson have stepped in to help raise hundreds of pounds for St Barnabas Hospice just a week after callous thieves took more than £900 from the charity’s shop in Spalding.
Shocked by the news that the store had been broken into twice in the same week that it was due to celebrate its first anniversary, Emma Wilson, Head of the Fundraising Committee at Moore Thompson knew action needed to be taken.
Following her quick actions and week-long campaign on social media she has managed to collect almost the full amount taken by the thieves following generous online donations, including a £200 gift from Moore Thompson.
Speaking about her shock at the theft, Emma said: “These thieves weren’t just stealing from the charity; they were taking vital funds away from our loved ones that may be being cared for now or in the future. How you can steal from anyone, let alone the terminally ill, I will never know.
“Once we saw the reaction to this theft, I knew that I and our firm could do more, so we have reached out to businesses and individuals across Spalding who have given generously at short notice to this fantastic cause.”
Emma appreciates the key support that hospices provide after her late sister Louise was cared for by the Teenage Cancer Trust, she added that she was so thankful for the support that local people have shown.
Mark Hildred, Managing Partner at Moore Thompson, said: “We were so shocked when we heard about the theft from the store and we knew we had to help Emma in her campaign to raise money for the charity.
“I hope that our small donation to St Barnabas goes some way to helping it as it recovers from this appalling theft.”
Emma has set up a Just Giving page to try and recover some of the lost money and is hoping that the rest of Spalding will support her and Moore Thompson in its fundraising for the hospice
She added: “If you would like to donate any amount is appreciated and it goes directly to the charity.”
